How to Join

All University of Chicago-affiliated persons may train at Genkikai, and the general public is able to participate in twice yearly special seminars. All persons who train in Aikidô of any kind, and all people interested in martial arts, mind and body disciplines, self-defense or health improvement are cordially invited to come train. To do so:

1. We do appreciate an email from you indicating your interest. Please come to observe or join a class. To participate, preferably wear loose clothes with long pant legs & long sleeves. Sweats or a M.A. uniform would be fine. Please remove watches & jewellery. Please be sure to come 15 minutes early so that a senior member can orient you.

2. Please fill out the U of C Club Sport waiver before class, and read our training guidelines which are posted at the entrance of the dojo.

3. After trying it out once or twice, you can join the Club if you so desire.

Classes are offered year round. All levels train together. No prior experience is necessary. Regular attendance is essential to make progress: please plan to come train at least 2-3 times a week. Please feel free to email us with questions, or to let us know that you plan to come observe or join in.
